FDA’s actions on animal-derived thyroid medications 

We wanted to update you on recent FDA communications regarding animal-derived thyroid medications, such as Armour Thyroid.

The FDA has announced it will ban the manufacture and distribution of these products in the U.S. within the next 12 months.

Roseway Labs will continue to maintain stock of Armour Thyroid where possible. We will also monitor manufacturers’ responses, including potential relocation of production or obtaining a biologics license, to help ensure ongoing supply.

Searchlight Pharma (ERFA) thyroid medication, made in Canada, is not expected to be affected. Similarly, Roseway Labs’ Natural Desiccated Thyroid (NDT) raw material remains available, meaning compounding will continue to be an alternative option.

At this stage, there are no immediate changes for clinics or patients. However, as a precaution, it may be prudent to consider alternative options while we continue to monitor developments.
