Reducing our carbon footprint
Every year, we actively monitor our carbon footprint using the Climate Essentials software. This helps us to assess and improve our environmental sustainability practices, including waste management, Scope 3 emissions and energy usage. By integrating ESG principles into our operations, we drive our business practices to be responsible, ethical, and sustainable. We strive to influence and reduce indirect emissions from our supply chain by carefully selecting suppliers and materials that align with our sustainability goals.
Meeting The UK's Royal Pharmaceutical Society sustainability standards
We align our sustainability practices with the four key sustainability policies of the UK's Royal Pharmaceutical Society (RPS):
- Improving prescribing and medicine use: We increase access to personalised compounded medications for patients in need through our services and can help alleviate drug shortages. We are dedicated to researching the latest evidence-based ingredients and developing new and innovative products.
- Tackling medicine waste: We implement strategies to reduce medicine waste and encourage proper disposal practices, including responsible recycling of production waste and using sustainable plastic for packaging, where available.
- Preventing ill health: We actively educate our employees, patients, and prescribers to make informed and environmentally conscious decisions.
- Improving infrastructure and ways of working: Our electronic prescribing platform and patient portal, not only facilitate remote care but are truly paperless. We also promote green practices in our daily operations through encouraging employees to recycle and adopt energy-saving practices.
Let's think about medical waste
When you finish with your medication, how do you responsibly dispose of it?
Proper disposal of medications is crucial for environmental sustainability. Here’s how to dispose of unused medications responsibly:
Do not wash out a container and put it in the recycling. Medicines must not be disposed of in general or domestic waste, nor be disposed of through the water or sewage systems.
Do not dispose of medicines in landfill waste. Ultimately, this leads to water and soil pollution.
Take unused medications to a pharmacy for incineration with other medical waste. This is the best option for the environment.
At Roseway Labs we are always interested to hear about medicine and packaging innovation and how it can help us to become more sustainable. If you have any ideas that may help us to improve our carbon footprint, please get in touch.
